On August 12, 2011, Nintendo dropped the price of it’s flagship 3D portable game system nearly $100. From the original price of $249, the 3DS video game console is now only $169.

The new lower price applies to both of the original versions of the console–cosmos black and aqua blue–as well as Nintendo’s September 2011 red flame version.

I had almost bought the 3DS at $249, and had even pre-ordered it. But I pulled out before the actual release of the console after realizing that their were other things my son would benefit from more for the holidays. My decision was also tempered by the knowledge that there wouldn’t be very many games upon the 3DS initial release.

But now, the tremendous price drop in the 3DS console combined with the new games being released for the 3DS, the time has never been better to make the plunge and buy the 3DS.

Here’s a few of the exciting new titles now available for the Nintendo 3DS system:

Super Mario 3D Land

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Star Fox 64 3D

Paper Mario 3DS

Nintendogs and Cats 3D

LEGO Star Wars Clone Wars 3D

LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean 3D
